Can I get a reimbursement from latest Prius 03 safety recall?

A couple of years ago the steering rack in my 2003 Prius failed and I had to pay for the replacement parts, which was about 1700 dollars. After hearing about the recall on the EPS pinion shaft nut, I brought the car in. Toyota repaired the faulty nut but they also replaced the pinion shaft. I thought that the pinion shaft is apart of the steering rack, am I right? Anyway, if they replaced the pinion shaft (and rack assembly) that I paid for only a couple of years ago because of the problems which led to the recall, I should be able to apply for a reimbursement for the 1700 dollars, right?

No, they are separate items. However, you should have received two sheets of paper in the recall envelope. One extending the warranty of the steering rack and the other the recall for the pinion shaft nut. You should be able to claim a refund from Toyota for the steering rack if you still have the receipt. The Toyota hotline number is: 1-800-331-4331 You will need your VIN number if you call them.

what on a 8 year old car that has to be fair wear and tare, what do you expect from an old car it does wear out at some stage. i suppose when it is due for the scrapper you will expect toyota to give you a new one.
