If you want to see it work, park on a slippery surface, put it in gear and give it a moderate amount of throttle while someone is watching from the outside. They should see one or both rear tires spin in addition to one or both front tires.
The center differential sends additional torque to the rear axle when the front axle experiences slippage under power, so to further engage the rear drive, just get the front wheels to spin on a slippery surface.
