how do you reset the check engine light on a 1988 toyota corolla?

Default how do you reset the check engine light on a 1988 toyota corolla?
I pulled off the battery cable while the engine was running to see if the alternator was charging and it made the check engine light come on and now I don't know how to cancel it. Somebody please help! Thank you!

thats not how to check to see if the alternator is running, next time use a multi meter.

Try removing the battery cable or the EFI fuse for a minute or so (with the engine off!) and then replacing it to reset the engine computer.
