Shrieking almost grinding sound coming from front driver-side tire?

Default Shrieking almost grinding sound coming from front driver-side tire?
I have a 2004 Toyota Prius and this am at about 8:00 I hit a very small mound of gravel on the road to my house and all of a sudden there was a shrieking, grinding sound when I drove, so I stopped and looked at the wheel and nothing is out of place or hitting the wheel causing the sound. It is not the breaks, but I have no idea what it is, help? I would take it to a shop, but it's Sunday and I have to work tonight.

If it happens constantly it can be a piece of gravel in between the rotor and brake on the back side or in another place you can't see without removing the tire but most likely it is bad bearing. Hopefully not uv joint.

you say you hit gravel? look between the brake rotor and the backing plate. there might be a piece of gravel lodged between it.

The sound you are hearing sounds like it could be coming from the braking system. Normally where bake pads grind in to the rotors due to insufficient brake material. Since you started hearing the noise after hitting a mound of gravel and it is consistent while driving, I would tend to lean towards gravel lodged where the rotors are turning, In many cases simply disassembly, inspection, resurfacing of pads and rotors may be in order. If you could get under the vehicle and inspect yourself perhaps you can find the gravel and dislodge it yourself. Hopefully this helps.

Gravel between the caliper and pad is the most likely suspect. You do need to get it out quickly.
