Can I put a Dutch Toyota Celica engine in an American Celica?

Default Can I put a Dutch Toyota Celica engine in an American Celica?
I live in the Netherlands and in case my engine needs replacing, i'd like to know if i'd need an American engine or if its possible to replace it with a Dutch engine. My car is a 2.2. liter and as far as I know, that kind never got launched in the Netherlands, but the 2.0 liter did. Is it the same, could I use it as a replacement ???
