If your Tacoma is 4wd, it will fit a 255/70R16 (which is 30" tall, by my calculations) just fine. 265/75R16 would also fit.
The suspension is not affected by the moderately-larger tires. You might notice the change in final-drive gearing (loss of power) and the speedometer will read slower than you are traveling so be careful in speed zones. These tire sizes are not extreme enough to cause large changes in performance--it might be barely noticeable, especially if you have the 4.0L.
My parents have 265/75R16's on their stock '98 4Runner. They fit with room to spare and barely affect performance. I have 31x10.50's on my '85 4Runner. I can feel the difference with them, but I have an 8-valve 2.4L with barely 100 horsepower. No issues with fitment though.
