The 4x4 (I assume it's on all-season tires) might be able to get going in the snow easier than the Corolla by virtue of having twice the number of drive wheels, but once you're moving the Corolla on snow tires will handle better and most importantly it will stop better. 4WD doesn't make the tires stick any better in the snow when turning or stopping.

Winter tires are ALWAYS better than 4WD or AWD which only help you during acceleration. It is the turning, braking and keeping the car from swapping ends that get you into trouble and proper tires, not more dive axles are what gives you that.

4x4 with high ground clearance and street tires vs a sedan with low ground clearance and snow tires.































that doesn't level the playing field!















both will have different advantages in different conditions.































bottom line, it always depends on the operator.
