HI i got my 2009 prius with 35000 milles on it, iwe went to the church today first trip, it is only 5 milles away, i got only 41 MPG is that normal, note that we are 2 adults and 4 kids, im 200 pounds my wife arount 155lbs and my 11,9,and 5 years old all together weight around 210 pounds so total is about 565 ponds. may be too much wait to get 50mpg, uh??? thanks a lot folks. oh manual says limit for a prius is around 810lbs.

You really cant average mileage based on a very short 11 mile trip. Calm down and be more patient

1. Bluto B is correct, eleven miles doesn't mean anything.

2. For the first five minutes, the engine is warming up the catalytic converter (longer than five minutes in cold weather). If you only do short trips mpg will be less than for trips of thirty minutes or more.

3. Check your tire pressures. The OE tires get the best mpg when inflated to 44/42--best tire life too.

4. You have to practice to get the most out of your Prius. Join one of the Yahoo Prius groups to get additional pointers. It took me two years to get my first 60 mpg tank, now anything less than 60 mpg is really low.
