I was advised by a local mechanic to have my 2006 Toyota RAV4's transmission oil flushed and refilled. I currently have 60,000 miles, they're charging me $185 for this service, he said that my oil is too dark already. I thought this was a pretty high cost, so I inquired with some other local mechanics, I was told by another that my car uses synthetic oil so that I wouldn't be needing the service until another 30k to 40k miles. How true is this?
disregard the millage if the fluid is discolor its time to change it. it takes about 5 qts of "genuine toyota atf ws"(part no. 00289-atfws) they are about $8.00 per qt.i have the exact same year model and i did it myself so i only paid for the fluid
Read your owners manual. It will make quite clear when you should change any oil or fluid. A read through of your owners manual will tell you every time a dealer tries to rip you off, because the owners manual tells you when the service SHOULD BE DONE, not when the rip off dealer wants to do it.
