i think JC maybe correct, now i drive a 2005 land-cruiser and mine has more bags than two dozen women. they are everywhere.
so the idea of having a crash is not something you want to think about, but the chances are with a toyota is that the other guy is going to come off worse unless it is a articulated lorry you have a crash with. then yes you might come off worse.
the height alone will save you from most injuries. and the fact it has a chassis not a piece of folded tin.
so yes it may not be as robust and as safety rated as a newer one but it will be better than a lot of 4x4's.
