I think, what you ought to do is connect the hot lead (which is a white wire) to one of the terminals of the starter button . I would suggest you ck continuity with a test light, just to make sure there hasn't been a previous splice . and connect the black/white to the other terminal of the starter button (I'm guessing the push button only has 2 terminals). according to the repair manual the black/white goes out to the neutral sw (also guessing that we are talking about an automatic transmission). just for you to know the black/red wire come out of the starter relay to the starter. use caution and a test light on your project . ah! and also you may use a fuse to play it safe . good luck!
