What does the "Trip" light indicates on a Toyota Echo's Dasboard?

Default What does the "Trip" light indicates on a Toyota Echo's Dasboard?
My gf's car has got a new light on. This one says Trip. I really dont know what does it mean and if it represents an issue how could it be solved. Thanks for your help. Just to restate. The car is a Toyota Echo 2001 and this morning the trip light went on.

Buy a ODB2 scanner from an auto shot or order it from Amazon.































Under the counsel or top left under the hood plug it in, it looks like a rectange with miniture squares in the middle and your trip light will flash.































The numbers of flash and the sequence will tell you what is wrong with the car.































Google Toyota trip engine light meanings to get the cheat sheet.































Usually it is something small like she forgot to close the gas cap tight, or oil change rule of thumb if it is driveable drive it until you can get it fixed.

It indicates that the odometer is not currently showing the total vehicle mileage but rather the "trip" mileage. The tripmeter is toggled on and off by pushing the "trip" button. The tripmeter is reset to 0 by pushing and holding the "trip" button.
