Default 2007 Toyota Camry outside temperature misreading?
I have a 2007 Toyota Camry and I just noticed that the outside temperature reading is not properly read. This is what I noticed. The outside temperature was 63 F, when I turned the car on, the sensor read 68. After a while (when the car started moving), the temperature reading changed to 66 F then to 64 F (it didn't go through neither the 67 nor the 65. When I took it to Toyota dealer, they informed me that "After investigating [my] concern with this condition, [they] find it to be normal characteristic of this vehicle". Notice that when the sensor reads 81, it goes through 82, 83, 84, then 86, 88, 90. I used to have a 2000 Toyota Camry and never had such an issue!!















Is the condition I have normal? Or is it the dealer just doesn't want to fix it? (the car is still under warranty, but I think it's only power train warranty and I don't think the outside temperature is part of it??)















Can any one help me with this issue? What should I do? How can I fix that issue?

It will never show you the actual outside temp, no car ever does. Its normal.

I would say that's pretty normal. The temperature sensor is likely on the dash just under the windshield and considering it's inside the car and more-or-less reading off the glass, they do surprisingly well. Once they stabilize, they're pretty accurate. There is usually some temperature shift when starting out though.

I don't think you need to cause yourself anymore stress on this minor issue. When Toyota had these temp gauges manufactured, they seriously dropped the ball. On my Tacoma, it was completely off (not displaying) and I actually had to take it apart and do some soldering. If you keep being persistent on this "problem" then your dealer will just replace it and charge you the $400, and the new one will probably still have this issue.. Just be glad it works.
