Default Toyota Yaris X reg Speedo problems, Help Please!!?
I have an X reg (year 2000) Toyota Yaris and the speedo is currently showing 51 mph when I'm going 30! ( i had someone follow me and flash their lights when i reached 30, i realise there speedo may be out but I don't think it will be out 20 mph)















any way I think its the sensor but I don't even know if it be fixed or even if i've just knocked it(i mounted a kerb a little roughly on friday night and haven't driven car since then, maybe gave it a jolt??)















my question is: is it possible to check the sensor is connected correctly?















If not does anyone know roughly how much this could be to get fixed (i.e is a big job likely to be a lot in mechanic fees?)

I think it's the wheel sensor that could be gone! (just a bit more info!)

Not sure if a speed senor can be checked. It sounds like it could be the problem.

It is possible that the connection was jolted loose, but you would have had to rock the car pretty dang hard. It is more likely that the speedometer failed. The part is realitivy cheap to replace but i would definitely bring it to a shop. (unless you ripped a car dash apart before. And even i don't fully recommend it.) The shop can d o a really quick and easy test with a multimeter and tell you what's wrong in only a few minutes.















Wheel speed sensors can be checked as well in a similar fasion (usually) and are also relatively cheap and easy to replace. Hope you get that fixed soon.

It sounds to me like you have accidentally pressed the switch to convert the speedometer from mph to km/hr. I believe the switch is in front of the instrument cluster on the Yaris.
