autozone.com-chassis wiregrams, show no relation between starting circuit and any steering lock or component or *interior* trans gear selector. manual or auto trans.
-----------------
if your starting system checks OK, wires, starter, battery, alt(?), then you want to check the neutral safety switch. either on the clutch peddle for a manual transmission, or for an auto transmission, on the side of trans itself. another possibility is the ignition switch on the back of the tumbler.
neutral/safety switch for the manual trans is on the clutch peddle.

there is a starter relay in a connector box in the bay that could be intermittent. have to look for that one. should be close to the battery. relays/fuses ID's are on the box cover.
