you have two types of engines in the 7th gen celica
the 1zz-fe (GT models)
the 2zz-ge (GTS models)
to an extent, vvti is like vtech, but VVTi works all the time, constanly adjusting your timing for the best burn possible.
withe the 1zz engine you get vvti
with the 2zz engine, you get a beauty called VVTLi. the L stands for LIFT, which is that "vtech kick". so on top of constantly adjusting, it gives you the kick at 6500ish RPM.
the GTS models came with the 6 speed manual and a 4 speed automatic with a manual mode which allows you to switch gears with buttons in the steering wheel
the GT has a standard automatic or a 5 speed manual.
there is alot on these cars to learn.. of you do get one or just want to ask more about them, feel free to join tunemytoyota.com, the friendliest toyota forum on the web.
hope to see you there and hope i could help some
