might wanna let this one go. they can be a bear to separate from the trans-axle. if you get stuck, you can't drive it. the neighbor will have to tow it to a shop! not the same as a RWD vehicle. i could see you finding bad ball joints and rod ends. saying more work and money needs to be spent. now the vehicle is down for two days. or longer waiting for parts. and if you don't catch that, ignorant ppl (not stupid ppl) may blame any tire wear on you and your ma int.
when ever one does this, it tests friendships.

DIY,
might need a slide hammer, healthy plastic mallet, and a pry bar. gritting your teeth properly. a shop, with new half shafts in hand, correct tools, and practice behind them, bout an hour per side. maybe three for both.
my guess is you'd take two or more hours on one side, learning, the other aide will go faster.
shop hours are 60-80+ an hour. but you aren't certified and can't guaranty your work. you could request, say 100 or less in labor and take the day doing it.
