use a snap ring pliers or fight it with a scribe and screw driver. match-mark the yokes fore & aft, b4 removal. that's a balanced drive shaft in relation to the rear differential input shaft and transmission tail shaft.
since you're having issue with a snap ring, you gonna be stumped or not even know if you crushed a roller in the new joint going back together. i suggest after you match-mark and drop the shaft, that you take the shaft to a shop and let them press the joints on. watch and learn there. then take it home and install. next time you'll know the ins and outs.

if you do it, make sure they get greased right away. the grease in them is not sufficient.
