the fan is electric. and it has no clutch. separate from the water pump. your pump is located under the timing gear. under all that crap on the front of the motor.

the fan's function is stand alone. outside the ecu loop. controlled only by the coolant temp sensor on the radiator. power is sourced via a relay in a connector box in the bay. so if it doesn't work, then either the temp sensor on the rad is bad/ the fan itself is/ or a relay. or wires going to it are suspect. not to be confused with the a/c fan and circuit.

if you find that the water pump need to be changed, you have to consider timing belt replacement as the labor to get to the water pump is costly and the t-belt is there. don't wanna pay for this labor twice. another consideration is the replacement of the front main seal. which is part of the oil pump. the oil pump itself shouldn't be bad. they kinda live forever. but the o-ring that seals it can leak over time.
