Default Wise to buy a 1998 toyota 4runner w/ 115,000? How much life is left?
On a budget and need a new vehicle. I found a Toyota 4runner w/ 115,000 miles that's selling for $5,900. It's in my price range and I know that Toyotas have a good reputation for lasting. I'm not a heavy driver in terms of always turning on and off my truck and driving long distances. Would this be a good buy? Anybody out there with sound knowledge on 4runners? Thx!!

My buddy owned a 98 limited in college. We yeilded 220,000 miles before trading it in. (running)































I would just be sure to get the history and maint. records so you know what you have. 115k for a toyota is just breaking in!

Both the 3.4L and 2.7L engines in the 3rd generation of 4runner are long-lasting. Most go 300,000 miles or more. Make sure the timing belt has been addressed--it should be replaced every 90,000 miles.































That sounds like a very good price, on paper. Resale value is quite high on 4Runners. Try to learn as much about its history as possible, check it over, and drive it. Try out the 4wd system (if it's so equipped) and all the features.

This is funny to me. At 115,000 miles, it's a tween at best. That engine is so reliable, that it has a much life as an 11 year old kid. The mileage still really low for a Toyota- not to mention any 1998 vehicle!! If you buy it, you'll be happy with it if it's been properly maintained. If it's a V6 (like most of them) that 3.4 liter is a good engine and will last a very long time. You could easily get another 10-15 years out of it without any problems. Just keep it maintained. Gas mileage isn't the best (around 15-16 mpg) but if that was a concern, I doubt you'd be looking at any SUVs.
