As long as you place the filter after the mass air flow sensor (in the same location as the stock airbox would be) it will still function as an intake. It will also give you the sound of an aftermarket intake when you get on the throttle. As for what it will do for engine power, it's likely it will either do nothing or it might actually decrease power slightly because your new intake 'design' will be pulling warmer air from under the hood instead of air from outside the engine bay. But if all you're really after is the deeper intake sound, installing a cone filter on the end of the stock air pipe shouldn't cause any drive-ability issues or the check engine light to trigger etc.
