Gas tank is tight; valve replaced. Scanner doesn't show problems

Well then you need another scanner! Because you still have a problem! The most common problem on this vehicle that will illuminate the MIL lamp is the CCV (canister closed valve) is this the valve you replaced?

to add,

if repair was made, then the 15 amp EFI main fuse should be pulled for 30 secs. key off. that will reset the ecu and clear the light. if the light persists the issue still exists.

i agree, there's no way i'm touching a "safe" Q in this venue......... specially a fuel issue no matter how minor it seems here.

The light could be on for any problem, minor or serious. There's no telling whether or not the car is safe without getting the trouble codes. If your scanner is not CAN compatible it will not read your computer.

I bought a 1996 Toyota Avalon XLS in 2010. Before i bought it the owner told me up front that the check engine light had been on for while. He said he took it to a repair shop and could not find any thing wrong with it.

Before i bought the car and took it to my repair shop and told him about the check engine light being on and etc. He the owner then ask me is it running rough, cutting off and on and etc he then agreed it should be no problem.

So about 16 months later the light is still on and not a single problem.

Can I drive safely with check engine light on (Toyota Camry 2002)?
