2000 Toyota Tacoma, Starter Trouble?

Default 2000 Toyota Tacoma, Starter Trouble?
So I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with 96k on it. Usually runs perfectly smooth. Yesterday out of the blue, when I turned the key to start it, it just made ONE click and then failed to even try to turn over. All the lights in the cab turned off as well. And when I tried to turn it on again, absolutely nothing happens (not even a sound). Once I jumped it it ran perfectly fine and I was able to start it right up by itself when I got to my house. My buddies think it might be the alternator, the solenoid, the starter, or the battery. Any ideas?















(Pretty sure it's not the battery, since it's practically new... But I could be wrong.)

sounds like it was a dead battery. First check the battery terminals to see if there is a good connection. Do you have a voltmeter?

well it could be a couple of things, you need to do some investigating. I would clean the inside of the terminals well with a wire brush and baking soda and water, clean off any black residue on the inside of terminals until its all clean. be careful not to brush toward your eyes and the crusty stuff on the terminals is battery acid and will eat holes on your clothes, so wash your hands for several minutes and do not wipe your eyes and nose before washing good. After cleaning the terminals go down to the parts store and borrow thier machine that checks the battery charger the alternator and the starter. Find out what your truck is doing. The internal voltage regulator could be the problem, or also a combination of the battery and the alternator, its hard to say at this point. but more inoformation is needed. good luck.
