a Toyota Yaris? In a pickle, I need a new engine for my 1998 Toyota Tacoma and don't know what it will cost for the engine as well as for the installation. I thinking around $ 1,600.00, if that is the case should I just place a down-payment on a used 2010 Toyota Yaris knowing the quality is sound. Payments are close to $ 260.00 per mo. New rebuilt engine ( New?? ) means no payment per month. What would you do?

unless your current vehicle is in good shape (not a lot of rust underneath), i would look for a different car. i would NEVER buy a yaris. they are small and have absolutely no torque.

Have you actually driven a Yaris? I travel a lot on business and rent a lot of different cars for several days at a time. I rented a 2011 Yaris this summer and it was such a piece of crap that I took it back the next morning and got another vehicle. Toyota really outdid themselves for stupidity of design and cheapness on the Yaris. You'd be way ahead trying to find a Honda Fit or Honda Civic instead. Regarding your Tacoma the answer to a rebuild is how you feel about the truck. If you really love it and feel that it is rock solid except for the engine then you should consider a rebuild. If however you're not that sure about other issues such as the trans and front end then you should not invest any more money in it. The Tacoma's built around that period were known to have transmission issues and I'd be reluctant to invest a new engine coupled to the existing trans. By the way, $1600 is likely way too low for a decent rebuild of that engine. Over $2k is more likely. Best of luck to you.
