My Toyota Corolla won't start?

Default My Toyota Corolla won't start?
I have a 1995 Toyota corolla and it won't start.We just rebuilt the engine and the timing is perfect. I have jump started it and I'm pretty sure its not the battery because when i try turning it on all the electrical (radio, lights, etc.) work. Sometimes it clicks once, other times it clicks multiple times, and others it doesn't click at all. We have tried putting in another battery and it still won't turn over. We don't know if it's the starter, the wires, the fuse box. We have old gas in the car and were wondering if that could possibly be the reason. Or could it be the starter, the ignition fuse, or any kind of other electrical aspects. Please Help. Thanks.

Maybe the alternator? Usually people can have it checked out @ autozone... and they can tell you if its good or you need a new one

Who is "we" in the rebuilding of the motor? You a non professional or a car shop? Take it back to the person who did this rebuilding or if it was you then you need a professional. Way too many reasons as to why it will not turn over. You change batteries but not starters. There could be a wiring issue or even connections. That clicking sound is typically the starter not getting enough voltage. Several reasons as to why in this area. An out of time engine turns over OK but will not light up. You changed batteries without luck so voltage is OK. I suspect the starter but do not know why. I suggest a mechanic to make the motor work. Best of luck.

Make sure you got the ground strap/cable hooked to the engine (you say you rebuilt the engine). Chassis electrics will work - but if engine is not well grounded - wont turn over. There aren't any fuses in the starter wire. Make sure big positive wire from battery plus post is tight to the starter terminal. Could be the starter just wont turn the rebuilt engine with higher compression. Engine is not too "tight" to turn is it? (pistons, bearings too tight?)
