I have done $2000 repairs on my 96 Mazda Protege with 160,000 miles. It was totalled and the back was smashed. It was either buy another $2000 Mazda that needed some maintenance and repay for insurance, taxes, registration, inspection fees, OR fix my Mazda for $2000 and have Zero maintenance to do since it was already done and make it drive like new.
It is always cheaper to fix your car than buying a new car. Wait until the car completely dies and is beyong repair. Then get another car.
An 05 Corolla would be around $5000-7000? That is more expensive than a $1000 repair on your old Corolla.
Manual is no problem. I have been driving manual for 6 years. I don't even feel it. It became second nature to me. I don't have to think about it and it does not give me trouble. Plus, Manual is lighter, cheaper, faster, and more reliable than automatic.
