Default Some question on toyota cars?
My dad bought me a toyota car to use 6 months back, I may plan to buy K & N air filter, now my question is, if I bring the car in for servicing, I may also plan to buy a special spark plug for fuel consumption, I know they have a service manual, should I tell the toyota customer service agent not to change my air filter or spark plug, they have longer life than the stock ones or if I don't say anything, after certain mileage they may just change it anyway, hope you all understand my question. If I buy the K & N air filter, can I just instruct them on how to clean it and not change it?

The K&N filter comes with a sticker to put onto the air filter housing which explains that it is a reusable filter and not to throw it away. And it never hurts to give special instructions to the service writer to not replace the filter or plugs. Maybe lift the hood and check if you have any doubts after service.

There is no spark plug that will decrease fuel consumption, so don't waste your money there. Standard plugs last 60-70K miles and are cheap. I've changed the standard issue plugs in my wife's Camry ONCE in 125000 miles, and it runs like new. (it's probably about due).....































The K&n air filter is supposed to aid intake air flow, but the time it takes to properly clean, THEN dry it thoroughly takes several hours, so I've heard, and the dealer is not going to fool around with THAT. If they do anything there, they will swap in a new paper filter and be done with it.
