Led headlights vs halogen ?

I recently discovered led headlight bulbs were being made for cars.

I have always had halogen but they get hot, are expensive to replace and don't last a long time. On top of that the white ones are usually more expensive..

Is there a reason that led lights are not as bright as the halogen bulbs ?

Are there ways to get brighter than halogen with led ?

Yes, infact the Cadillac Escalade has had them available since 2008. The problem however is that LED's of high output aren't really any more efficient than Halogen bulbs, they need an active cooling system and also are very, very expensive.

Yes, LED lights can be brighter than halogens. Some examples are in the Cadillac Escalade and Mercedes-Benz. The only thing is they are very expensive.

The technology is just not available to directly replace existing halogen bulbs with LED. If you look at the handful of cars with LED headlights they use a totally different design for the headlight body and reflectors.

In theory, LED headlights should be more efficient - anyone got any power draw data?

In the mean time, you can get upgrade bulbs (both filament and HID) that are replacements for standard halogens.
