Those cars actually have timing belts, search under the hood for any labels or writing indicating it's been changed before. If the car still has its original timing belt with that many miles on it, it could break at any time. Depending on the manufacturer timing belts are only intended to be inservice for 60,000-100,000 miles.

EDate is wrong. the last year a timing belt was used on the Corolla was 1997. The timing belts are supposed to be maintenance-free so you should not need to change them.
