What do you do if your Prius falls into deep water?

Default What do you do if your Prius falls into deep water?
I was just curious as to what one should do to get out. The water would short out the car's electricity, so how would you get out of the car.

Wait until the inside of the car is full of water. It will be difficult, but you must stay calm the entire time. Once the car is full of water, the pressure will be equalized, and you will be able to open the door.































You can also buy emergency kits for such a situation. The kits include a special hammer or device that you can use to shatter your window, and escape to safety.

The same way you would with any other car. Most of the car is run off of 12V DC - if you are not driving it doesn't care much about the HV system. The HV also does not pose a hazard to you in getting out.

If a Prius goes into deep water, the high voltage system will shut down because there is a GFCI in the high voltage side mush like the GFCI in your bathroom. No need to worry about getting shocked. You would just have to break the window or wait for pressure to equalize in the cabin to get out.
