88 Celica Overheating - possible airlock/blockage in the engine?
Hey, I have an 88 Celica St162, which is overheating. I could only get 4.5L of coolant into the 7L system after it was drained.
It would take around 25 mins to overheat. I came to the conclusion that the themostat must be faulty, only to discover that someone had already removed the thermostat. I bought a new thermostat, and now the car overheats in 5 mins, so obviously a faulty thermostat is not the problem.
I have flushed the radiator, it is free from blockages, checked the water pump, the impeller blades are fine, and when the engine was kicked, you could see the blades spinning, so the shaft/bearings are fine.
I have an engine repair booklet, and the only thing according to the trouble shooting is that there is a blockage in the engine. Which makes sense considering I can only get 4.5L of coolant into a 7L system.
So does anyone have any idea on how to remove an airlock/blockage from inside the engine, or have any other in site to why it is overheating?
