Default 2002 Toyota Tacoma V6 4 wheel drive. engine troubles.?

The engine, when you push the gas, sound like a stick is stuck under the truck. ( scraping sound) Let off gas and no sound. The truck has 280,000 mile on it. The engine has never had a wrench on it. I do use synthetic oil and change every 10,000 miles.

It may be a universal joint going bad, I would check and grease the drive train. All 4 wheel drive models have grease fittings on the drive shaft.

it sounds like a loose connection of your transmission

also check for slackness and health of belt and idler pulley bearings.

the big Q is if that only does it when in gear or in neutral or both.

trans option/auto or manual, long bed or short bed, xtra cab, would denote a center carrier for the rear drive shaft(in play), and if it's an auto locker 4x4 or manual locker would help as well.
