also, even if not towing, if the conition exists, like going up a hill at a "sweet" speed, or even level ground at a slower *sweet* speed that causes the trans to down shift between od and final gear repeatadly, turn it off. anytime the trans continually shifts between gears od on, causes excessive trans internal wear. over time, that condition, will cause the trans to not hold od very well at all. it will start to down shift when it's not needed.
