Its that celebrities were all buying them to appear like they were doing their bit for the planet. Yet owning gas guzzling cars also. Theres nothing wrong with the prius. Just that celebrities were using it to make themselves look like do good ers

I guess some people get a "charge" from the jokes. The more "current" the better. In my opinion you shouldn't let the "static" bother you.

The Prius is the first model hybrid vehicle to make an impact on the car market - in fact, for about a year they were the hottest selling passenger car on the market, with a waiting list of buyers. Some people felt very threatened by the success of a small car that got spectacular fuel economy in real world driving and many more didn't understand the technology at all. The backlash came from literally dozens of directions, and today some of the FUD persists. There are plenty of people who believe the fuel economy drops if you drive it like any other car; plenty who think it is lightweight (actually over 3000 lbs for 2014 base model), plenty who think it is underpowered (actually slightly faster 0-60 than the US Delorean DMC-12 was), plenty who think diesels rival the efficiency (around town they are not even in the same league).

There is more to fear about the Prius, including the remarkable reliablity. At 170K+ miles my 2002 has needed no repairs except a 12 volt battery, shocks, windshield wipers, a couple windshields, and tires. The brakes are original and less than half worn.

You don't understand the jokes because you do not fear progress.
