According to Kelly Blue Book, a 1999 Camry with 137000 miles in good condition is worth about $2,400.

So depending on condition of the vehicle that could be a very decent price.

Hondas are the cars that sometimes bring a lot of bucks for older cars with lots of miles. Toyotas are second to Honda. All you can do is take a chance that you can get 5 years and 50,000 miles out of the car without lots of major repairs. It's a one owner car so that helps quite a bit. Any car under $5,000 is risky so you might as well toss the dice on this one. Change the oil regularly. One change of the transmission fluid will bring piece of mind for a long time to come. Check it out; drive it around; see how it feels; check out the maintenance and service records. Maybe he is selling it because an older car with lots of miles makes him feel antsy and he can afford better. If it is something like that, then it helps. That's quite logical. Because it could be that he suspects there is a cracked head, which is quite expensive, so he is trying to dump the car. Keep that in mind. A little loss of pep may equal cracked head. So make sure it is very responsive for that reason. (I got burned like that once.) Best of luck on it - because you never know.
