Default Toyota prius or Hybrid Avalon?

My dad totaled his Camry. He drives a rental Honda civic and every time he sees a hybrid Camry on the freeway he wants to weep. The time has come to get a new car, I argue that the Prius is ugly but economical as f-u-c-k and has decent interior room and overall is a good choice, HE says he would prefer the hybrid Avalon since you save money on gas and have a luxurious ride to be in. I won't be driving because I don't have my license yet but my sister and dad will be, my sis says she thinks the Prius is ugly as s-h-i-t so she would prefer anything else other than the Prius. So my question here is what are the pros and cons of each car? I would much rather hear from owners of each car.

We aren't really into horse power or anything fast, I see it as why have a car that's fast but can't really go fast in city and freeway, anyways we already have an 81 bandit and a 66 427 cobra. I want speed and horsepower crap out of the equation since we're choosing between 2 Toyotas, maybe speed would matter if gasoline wasn't $4.29 per gallon

ok... first of all, coming from an auto head with engines of brains don't get a Prius. they are honestly the laughing stock of the auto world. second off, get out of that rental civic as quickly as you can (because they are also terrible) unless you want to be a ricer with a stupid fart cannon. (you don't want to be that). if its between the Prius and the avalon, get the avalon.

with the avalon you have a 3.5L v6 with 286 horse power, (thats good for what it is)

honestly, don't go Prius, ever ever ever ever. there crap

Ok i work for toyota and I have my opinion on hybrid cars if you do alot of city driving hybrids are a good choice. As far as people saying the prius is crap that is very untrue these cars require minimum maintenance and and over a very long service life on the hybrid battery. If i had to say I would go with the avalon maybe not a hybrid since the hybrid avalon doesn't get as good of gas mileage as the prius. The avalon has a very nice ride and as long as you do your oil changes the car will last a long time.

P.S. I would recomend the avalon limited.

P.S.S. Im a service technician not a salesman

Honestly, if it were me, and I chose the Avalon over the Prius, I wouldn't get the hybrid version of the Avalon. The hybrid version of the Avalon costs more than the gas powered version and the gas consumption between the two aren't really that much different.

Despite what the naysayers say, the Prius is actually a GREAT vehicle. As Dustin Horn stated, these vehicles require very little maintenance, you pay very little at the pump, and they are just as reliable as any Toyota model.

Bottom Line: It doesn't matter what we think. Your dad is the one that is going to make the final decision and if your sister disagrees with driving a Prius, your dad will most likely say, "Then I guess you won't be driving then."
