Default 2003 Toyota 4runner neutral safety switch

I have found little info on replacing or adjusting of a 2003 Toyota 4runner neutral safety switch. I have replaced the switch however I am still have intermit starting issues.

I will start fromthe beginning...

Came out from a doctor’s appointment and my 4runner would not start. I had light, radio and the dinger but it would not turn over. Called AAA to get jump. They tested battery and said it was good just low. Since the battery was 4 ½ yrs old went ahead a bought the new battery. Battery installed the same. I went thru the gears (this is an automatic) down to low came back to neutral and it started. Drove it home and thought it is the neutral safety switch. Ordered it and looked for utube videos on how to change it. None for a late model 4runner. I was able to change the switch but noticed several difference that may or may not be now causing me issues.
1. There is only one bolt that hold the switch in place. And it only has about 1/8 inch of play to adjust.
2. The linkage is on the driver side and the switch is on the passenger side. Many on the video showed that you would remove the linkage and then replace the switch. I took it that it was because they had to to get to it. Am I wrong and need to unattached the linkage and then install the switch.
3. Could this be the harness? The part is solid-state. Thought about trying to bypass the switch to see if it was. I would think that would test the starter and harness.
Once I got the switch replaced I could not start it in neutral only park. Which at first I thought be fine. I could not see a need to start it in neutral. But now (within 2 days) it is back to intermitting starting in Park.
I got a lot of “help” at the parts store with guys telling me it was a bad starter. But if it was a starter why would I be able to start my truck a few hours after having an issue without doing anything. I would think if it was a starter I would need to tap it or something.

Would like to know your thoughts and/or experience.
