Default 1998 2.2l Camry had no torque off the line

Hello gents,

My Camry recently over heated rather severely. I replaced the water pump, thermostat, timing belt and spark plugs while I was in there. However, now the car has little power when starting out. It will get up to highway speed after a while. The plug wires are jacked up when it over heated. Do I need a compression test on the four cylinder? Or just replace the plug wires to see if that helps? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
